The Respiratory Viruses team at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute has extensive expertise in microbiological diagnostics and surveillance of respiratory viruses, including enteroviruses. The team leverages cutting-edge technologies, such as next-generation sequencing (NGS), to support high-quality genomic surveillance and translational research. Our multidisciplinary approach enables a comprehensive perspective on microbiological research and public health challenges.

In addition to contributing to the surveillance of respiratory infections across Catalonia, the team collaborates closely with the European Non-Polio Enterovirus Network (ENPEN) to strengthen enterovirus surveillance at a European level. Through this collaboration, we contribute to international efforts to monitor circulation patterns, to promptly detect outbreaks, and to characterise emerging and re-emerging enteroviruses.

Our team has worked closely with Nostrum Biodiscovery to develop this dedicated enterovirus sequence repository, designed as an open and collaborative resource to support research into viral diversity, evolution, and epidemiology. We actively encourage laboratories, surveillance programs, and research groups to contribute their data to this repository. Broad participation is essential to improve the representativeness, resolution, and public health impact of enterovirus genomic surveillance. By sharing data, the community collectively strengthens our understanding of enterovirus circulation at local, national, and international levels.,
